"Hatred's Last Frontier"

The election results were almost shockingly good, with one notable exception: Virginia's passage of an appallingly overreaching constitutional amendment to ban same-sex unions.

I was so busy celebrating the Dems' takeover, especially George Allen's richly deserved defeat, that I hadn't gotten around to writing about the amendment. The editorial board of Staunton's News Leader beat me to it -- and said everything I would have.

VA joined 6, or is it 7, states to ban gay marriage this past tuesday. Colorado is perhaps the only place that did worse. We activists tried an end run around the marriage issue, to include a provision in statute (not the constitution) to extend SOME rights. well, we couldn't even get that.
at least with the dems in power "they" won't ACTIVELY be trying to nail iraq, deficits, and lack of health care on the queers. execpt the undocumented homos risking their lives for a better life HERE(?).

Staunton does go up a notch in my 'book'; but Virginia, alas, goes down. I've no doubt they'll regret this in the future.
